“What do you do for living ?”
Yea, yea. I get this questions a lot. For all you know I work in the real estate industry with a formal real estate qualification. Buy what does Kanal do? Today, I will take you for a walk in my shoes.
A typical day starts at 6.20 am when my alarm goes of for Subuh prayer. Often time, I would wake up to the sound of the Azan from a Mosque located 1 km away just because I am a very light sleeper. As I write this post, my routine after the prayer is a short nap before commencing to work.
The first thing I do upon waking up is definitely check my phone and go through my Facebook notifications and also group chat updates on Whatsapp or Telegram. Click here to follow me on Facebook if you haven’t already ! Then if I have the extra time, I would go through my Instagram feed.
My go-to everyday make up routine is very simple ! My current favourite products for everyday look involves:
Primer | FENTY BEAUTY Pro Filt’r Instant Retouch or
NARS Pro Prime Pore Refining Primer
Tinted Moisturiser | NARS Pure Radiant Tinted Moisturiser with SPF 30
Eye Primer | MAC
Eye Shadow | Burgundy Palette by Kylie Cosmetics & Urban Decay Naked Heat Palette
Mascara | Marc Jacobs Beauty Velvet Noir Major Lashes, MAC Instacurl Lash
Blusher | Dallas by Benefit, TARTE Amazonian Clay 12 Hours
Highlighter | Killawat Killer Highlighter Duo by Fenty Beauty
Lipstick | I honestly do not have current favourite because I just love my lipsticks. I could wear three different shades throughout the day
By 9 am, I’d already be at the office. If I have morning meeting away from the office, I’d find myself still tunjuk muka at the office before headed to the meeting.
On normal days I’d skip breakfast but today as I write this post my craving for Tosei Paper is just too high for me to ignore. Hence I brought myself to my favourite mamak in Shah Alam CBD (No I wasn’t alone). Halfway through my Tosei Paper and as expected, I got a call from Boss Madam & I knew I had to leave my Tosei Paper to get back to the office to help her with works.
The management & my office rooms are located at the above floor. But we (the Director, GM and Me) find ourselves (except the CEO) settling and do our work at the meeting room on the ground level. This is because, it is more convenient for us to communicate and reach out to one and another and most importantly, to take away the barrier between working staff and the management team. We are highly accessible for our staff to meet and discuss and the communication is transparent.
At the office, I am fortunate to have supporting personnels. Individual to help me make my ideas and designs that I have in my head come to life and to help me produce the marketing collaterals. Also, I am a disgrace to Gen Y- I am not tech savy. Hence I need people to help me with daily hacks that involves technology and internet.
Most of the time if I do not have meetings away from my office, I would sit down and concentrate on my work whilst listening to the soothing sound of Quran recitation and my current favourite is Surah Yusuf.
Today I had a meeting over lunch with an old business partner (old enough because I knew him since the first year of my working day) in Bangsar. Sandeep is the MD from Sandeep Juneja Holdings. His agency is held responsible to create impressive portfolios for Property Developers and Estate Agencies to be submitted to any internationally recognised Property Award. I have worked alongside with him almost every year, (as part as the developer’s team) to feed and provide him with the documents and information needed. And Alhamdulillah, we have won for every submissions made. Developers nowadays take pride on their ‘babies’, therefore these awards will enhance the value of the development as it is recognised internationally. The awards enables the development to ‘stand out’ and give more value compared to other development especially the fact that we are experiencing oversupply of properties at this current of time. Anyway, this meeting is to explore, understand and ‘match make’ the possible Awards and potential developments that can participate in. Some of the notable property awards that SJH covers : International Property Award, FIABCI, The EDGE Top Property Developers Award & AGA KHAN Award.
Lunch meetings or afternoon meetings would normally end right before or as the rush hour kicks in. On lucky days, Mama would lend me her driver so I could just continue doing my work at the passengers’ seat. If I drive, then I would reach Shah Alam by the end of office hour so I can just go straight back home.
At home, I’d shower and recite the Quran as I wait for Maghrib and also my hair to dry. I have discipline myself to recite the Quran on daily basis for over a year now and MasyaAllah, I can really feel the difference ! Different in terms of I feel a lot calmer (I used to be a very snappy person), I feel loved (I realised that Allah has sent a lot of beautiful, sincere and genuine people into my life), and of course & undeniably rezeki yang melimpah ruah.
This year, I have vow to conclude the Quran twice. Alhamdulillah on the 16th of November 2017, I achieved my 2017 resolution.
I don’t eat dinner at home. So normally, I’ll have dinner outside or just stay at home. My go-to dinner right now is salad. Fetush (not fetish) Salad – a Syrian dish from my favourite place to eat with M and my girlfriends.
Before hitting the sack, I’d do some reading/watch video and reply comments on my Facebook (alamak retis sangat).
A typical day ends at 12 am.
So there you go, a day in my shoes
